Coverage

Main article: Pixar Cars Wiki:Coverage

While the Pixar Cars Wiki takes it name from the primary Cars series, which began in 2006 with the Cars film, our coverage fully extends to all spin-offs and related media created since, such as, most notably, the Planes series helmed by DisneyToon Studios. Info can likewise be found about the canceled projects once similarly intended to expand the Cars universe, such as Metro and Boats. We also offer partial coverage for crossover media such as Disney Infinity and Kinect Rush: A Disney/Pixar Adventure.

History

World Of Cars Wiki

Original site logo

The World of Cars Wiki was founded on June 13, 2011 by Madbomberfan, during a time when Fandom (then known as Wikia) sites, offering full-scale, Wikipedia-inspired coverage of specific, niche topics, had first begun to take off in popularity. While Cars coverage existed on the network beforehand, this was limited primarily to a subset of the Pixar Wiki, with the only focused sites being a handful of small, very specific wikis (such as The World of Cars Online Wiki, which covered the former online game). Seeing the potential for a dedicated, umbrella site for everything Cars, Madbomberfan founded the World of Cars Wiki. It was not long before the wiki gained a diligent following, quickly attracting tens of additional users who, over the next year, helped develop the wiki, notably becoming the first website to provide extensive coverage about expanded Cars material such as the video games and comic series.

By the end of 2012, however, the wiki had fallen into somewhat of a drought. All previous administrators ceased activity, leaving the site an unmoderated playground for vandals. Newcomer Evilquoll promptly took action, recovering the wiki via adoption request. Evilquoll officially "re-founded" the wiki, alongside RodRedlineM1 and Gray Catbird, on October 17, 2012. The moderation shift set precedent for the next few years, as the wiki continued to foster a modest, but dedicated, community.

2017 was something of a "big break" for the wiki. With the release of Cars 3 reviving public interest in the franchise, the wiki welcomed an unprecedented influx of new contributors, largely bringing it to the reasonably-sized audience it boasts today.

Beginning in 2020, the wiki started setting groundwork for a large-scale merging project, with an ultimate goal to combine the various Cars Fandom wikis into one, central location, itself serving as the host organism. After two years of hard work and negotiations, the goal was realized, with every possible community–including, most notably, the former Planes Wiki– joining forces. Upon completion, the World of Cars Wiki decided to update its name to the Pixar Cars Wiki, in order to reflect more recent official franchise branding.

Community

In recent years, the wiki has begun new efforts to develop a large, welcoming community. In addition to new collaborative spaces such as proposals and the Discussions interface, we also recently made a Twitter account, and have launched our own Discord server!
